Benefits of Adhesive Bonding Technology

Adhesive bonded fasteners have been used for decades and are trusted on thousands of the high-performance programs worldwide, from commercial and military aerospace jets to naval ships, Formula race cars, autonomous vehicles, and industrial programs. Adhesive bonded fasteners offer numerous benefits that streamline manufacturing, improve structural integrity, and reduce costs.

What is Adhesive Bonded Technology?

Click Bond was founded nearly 40 years ago on the belief that holes don’t belong on an aircraft. Holes weaken substrates, allow for leak paths and galvanic corrosion, increase installation costs, and more. Our founders took a whole new approach, eliminating the need for holes by inventing our patented adhesive bonded technology.

To install a traditional nutplate, you need three holes: the bolt hole plus two rivet holes to install the nutplate and hold it in place. However, with our adhesive bonded nutplates, you only need one hole for the bolt.

Our fasteners rely on our line of industry-leading structural adhesives, eliminating the need for rivets, drilled installation holes, welding, or hot work associated with traditional fasteners. The adhesive bondline creates a powerful barrier between the fastener and substrate, ultimately offering numerous benefits to our customers in terms of performance, time, and costs.

What are the benefits of an adhesive bonded fastening system?

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is, “Why adhesive bonding?”

When you use an adhesive bonded fastening system, you’ll enjoy several important benefits, including improved structural integrity and performance as well as reductions in the weight, potential damage, and costs usually associated with traditional riveted systems.

1. Adhesive Bonded Fastening Improves Cycle Time | Adhesive-bonded fastening solutions maximize design and work sequence flexibility while reducing assembly time.

2. Adhesive Bonding Reduces Foreign Object Debris | Without the need for rivets, washers, and bolts, FOD risk is reduced.

3. Adhesive Bonded Fastening Reduces Production Costs | Elimination of drilling and associated steps streamlines and derisks production processes and lowers total cost.

4. Adhesive Bonding Simplifies Installation & Maintenance | Our easy, three-step installation process can be performed in the factory, at sea, or even on the battlefield, facilitating production, retrofits, and repairs.

5. Adhesive Bonded Fastening Prevents Corrosion | Our fastening solutions integrate an adhesive barrier between the substrate and the fastener, preventing galvanic corrosion.

6. Adhesive Bonded Fasteners Reduce Weight | Adhesive-bonded fasteners eliminate holes and localize reinforcement, ultimately reducing material and optimizing weight on the structure.

7. Adhesive Bonded Fastening Avoids Errors & Rework | A major share of shop floor rework cost relates to misdrilled holes. This is eliminated with adhesive-bonded fasteners.

8. Adhesive Bonded Fastening Preserves Structural Integrity | Adhesive bonding eliminates structural holes, removes stress concentrations, and prevents fatigue crack initiation.
