May was a packed month for the Click Bond Community Outreach Teams! As we move into summer and nicer weather, the COT is increasingly taking part in events that bring folks outside to share their expertise, help our neighbors, and support our communities. All Click Bonders are welcome to join the COTs — learn more about this by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
Kicking off the month of May, the Watertown COT ran a spring donation drive to contribute toward the fight against breast cancer, as a way to honor Mother’s Day. The Click Bonders in Watertown shared kudos messages and goodie bags with each other, at $1 each, and were able to raise over $245 to donate to the Connecticut Cancer Foundation!
On Saturday, May 3rd, Carson City Click Bonders Ali Tucker, Nikki Abernethy, and Ellie Keene volunteered their time to maintain and clean up Hillside Cemetery, Reno’s oldest cemetery. The Click Bond COT continues to support the Hillside Cemetery Foundation, and the next scheduled clean-up will be on Saturday, June 17th.
Some COT members braved the cold waters of Lake Tahoe and supported the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. Omar Sanchez led the charge, along with Daisy Ramirez and Scott Lenfestey. They raised $600 for the cause and joined the other spirited and brave teams jumping into South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, May 13th!
Our COT members also volunteered at Kids Park Day on May 20th at Mills Park in Carson City. This event, hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation, encourages kids and families to go outside and get active. Daisy Ramirez, Olga Ortiz, and Omar Sanchez represented Click Bond at the event and volunteered their time by sharing an interactive airplane activity during the event. Also, Click Bond supported the event by supplying raffle items to the Junior Park Ranger Olympics!
Another event COT members support every year is the FISH Have a Heart Dinner on Saturday, May 20th. This community outreach event for FISH (Friends in Service Helping) is an annual fundraiser; this year’s funds help support the new Student Housing Revitalization Project in downtown Carson City. Click Bonders Princess Deusenberry, Doug Carlton, and Scott Lenfestey served as celebrity waiters at the event and participated in a table-decoration competition. As volunteers, they provided the attendees of the dinner with service at their tables and encouraged guests to donate to FISH. It was a great evening to also celebrate other Click Bonders who attended as guests at the Click Bond table, which was decorated in an Alice in Wonderland theme!
The month drew to a conclusion with a holiday weekend, and COT members Ali Tucker, Scott Lenfestey, and Olga Ortiz pitched in once more — this time, by placing American flags by gravesites at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City, to honor fallen servicemembers, prior to Memorial Day weekend, then removing them at the end of the weekend.
We’re so proud of all the contributions our Community Outreach Team members continue to make in their communities, to organizations and causes that are near to their hearts. Thanks to all who participated!
